23 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. 25 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” Matthew 8:23-27 (ESV)
This story is a true account of Jesus with his disciples and yet there is more here than just another miracle of Jesus. Why is this story in the gospel? Can we take more from this story?
I believe we can for it can illustrate this principle: Jesus walks with us through the storms of life.
The storms of life come and we cry out fearing that he is not there or will not save us. As he rebukes our lack of faith he calms the storm. Then we marvel to see what he has done because our minds could not conceive of the problem being solved in that way.
Reflect on how Jesus has calmed the storms of your life as you cried out to him more in fear than in faith.
